Me Likey Li

I'm digging the new Lykke Li song "I Follow Rivers."  The video is a bit too literal for me, but I love the song check it, yo...

No Oscar Nod For Tron Score?

Just about the only good thing about the Tron reboot was Daft Punk's brilliant score... Probably one of the best  of the year... I really do think The Social Network's score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will win the Oscar, and I think it's a great score but Tron definitely deserved to be nominated, it was perfect for the film, almost as if a DJ (or two) were scoring the film live...

The noms are as follows:

  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • Inception
  • The King's Speech
  • 127 Hours
  • The Social Network

Is This It?

The Strokes Confirm Release Date for New Record

Strokes' bassist Nikolai Fraiture has confirmed a recently speculated rumor concerning the release date of the Strokes' fourth full-length by posting on his private Facebook page: "Yes! You read right... March 22nd!! Looking forward to playing the new songs live." And we have confirmed that yes, it's true: the fourth Strokes album will come out March 22 in the U.S. via RCA.

I remember when "Is This It" first came out, I was a bit hesitant to jump on the Strokes buzzwagon, but then it became pretty much the only album I listened to for a long period of time, and I think the best album of the 00's. They went on to release 2 more great discs (neither quite as life changing as the first,) as well as great solo projects from every member of the group, so I am excited to hear what they have come up with for their latest (and seemingly final?) disc.

Crime really does Pay

I'm obsessed with the "unofficial" video for "Crime Pays" from Brooklyn's own Bear Hands... No psychedelics necessary, but I also assume they may enhance viewing pleasure, or the combo could quite possible result in an insane asylum stay.. Either way - win/win. You look like you could use a break... I know I could...

The Kills Announce New Album: Blood Pressures

One of my personal favorites, The Kills will finally be gracing us with a new album. In the last 3 years singer Allison Mosshart was busy fronting Dead Weather with Jack White, while guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Jamie Hince was busy canoodling with Kate Moss...While I think Dead Weather is aiiiight, and sleeping with supermodels has it's benefits, I LOVE THE KILLS, and they put on a fantastic live show (especially for a duo) so I'm glad to hear that they have found the time to record a new album, here are the details from their website:

I Love This...

My favorite cover of Cee-Lo's "Fuck You" so far....

She's got the signing skills and swagger to boot...

Effective Trailer Music - Battle: Los Angeles

The trailer for Battle: Los Angeles is really ominous, yet beautiful, largely owed to the song "Sun's Gone Dim and The Sky's Black" by Icelandic musician Jóhann Jóhannsson. The editing is also brilliant, keeping the powerful images devoid of natural sound, and just letting the eerie voice seep in. It truly is a powerful and creepy trailer. Who knows how the actual film will turn out, but the two minute trailer definitely spurs my interest, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen... check it out

Mid-Week Music Video Fix - Celebrating the dying art of the music video..

 Still the best.......

I'm a huge music video fiend. This  definitely could be my all time favorite.

It's easy for comfort to get in the way of vanity.

Middle Brother are touring!

Unfortunately they have not announced any west coast dates yet... The super group which features John McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit, and was apparently created specifically for my enjoyment. (If you know me, you know my love for Deer Tick, and Dawes, as well as my extreme like of Delta Spirit).

I have seen Middle Brother perform twice, once in the middle of a Deer Tick set at the El Rey and a few weeks ago at their first official show at the Invisible Children Benefit at the Troubadour, where they played all of the songs from their upcoming disc plus a great cover of The Replacements "Portland". Mr. Blake Mills sat in on guitar for the set, and they were beyond incredible. The way these three frontmen complement each other while harmonizing as well as trading off lead vocal duties is not to be missed.....

The tour dates (so far) are as follows:

03.02.11 9:30 Club Washington, DC, US Deer Tick, Dawes, Jonny Corndawg
03.03.11 Paradise Rock Club Boston, MA, US Deer Tick, Dawes, Jonny Corndawg

Their debut disc will be released March 1st and a very reliable source over at Partisan records tells me he has never been more excited about any record coming out... And from him, that's saying a lot, believe you me! (I have never really understood what that phrase means). Anyway you can preview and pre-order Middle Brothers debut right here: http://www.partisanrecords.com/artists/middle-brother/catalog/middle-brother

Plus here they are performing at the aforementioned Invisible Children Benefit at the Troubadour

Beginning with  the Taylor Goldsmith on lead vocals for "Wilderness"

Lovin' Tennis..

Husband and wife duo Tennis' debut full length dropped today, and I may be a bit late on this one, but I dig it... I'd like to tie a sweater around my neck and make a sexy nautical themed film possibly starring 80's Andrew McCarthy  and Lorie Griffin of Teen Wolf fame just to use them for the score...
